What’s The Difference between a Chartered Architect and an architect?
The Royal Institute of British Architects, RIBA, is an organisation that is recognised not just throughout the United Kingdom, but throughout the world. It is considered to be the epitome of a trusted architectural institution, and to be a RIBA Chartered Architect is a respected achievement and one we’re very proud of here at JLE Studios.
Many of our clients ask us “what’s the difference between an architect and a chartered architect?” A RIBA Chartered Architect, often just referred to as a ‘chartered architect’ means that the architect or architectural practice is a member of RIBA, and that those Chartered practices are endorsed and promoted by RIBA.
The Royal Institution of British Architects has stringent and respected requirements for accreditation, requiring that those practices or individuals demonstrate that their business is committed to excellence both in design and the delivery of that service.
Eligibility Criteria for membership of RIBA
At least one of the full-time principals (Director or Partner) of the company must be a RIBA Chartered Member.
At least one in eight of the staff members must be a RIBA Chartered Member and all architectural work must be supervised by a RIBA Chartered Member.
The company/practice must commit to operating policies regarding best practice in Employment, Equality, Diversion & Inclusion; Health & Safety; Quality Management and Environmental Management.
Knowing that the Chartered Architect they have chosen is accredited to RIBA gives our new (and existing) clients the confidence that JLE Studio is a recognised company within the industry. They understand that we have an authoritative and positive commitment to maintaining and delivering a high level of service and act with the highest standards of professionalism, best practice and ethics.
