The Story of our Marylebone Grade II Listed house, London

Our team reveals some of the design details of this beautiful period property project

The Brief

The brief for JLE Studio was to create a sympathetic, elegant and family-friendly kitchen design within a new area to the original kitchen. The aim was to free-up space to allow the creation of a new dining room that would have views over the gardens.

The Original House

The house is part of a planned regency neighborhood of listed houses, on one of the few private roads in London.

The First Steps

As the house is of historical significance the team were aware that every detail of the project would be scrutinised. The project had to gain Listed Building Consent for the works proposed.

The Details

This project focuses on precise bespoke design in a traditional manner, featuring beautifully hand-crafted materials with interesting brass highlights and discreet lighting throughout. Lighting is vital to create an ambience that flatters the room itself and the objects within it.

The Design Process

The team discovered that our client liked strong, traditional colours and authentic detailing within the furniture designs. This would need to be demonstrated in the pieces that would be provided for the kitchen. All were constructed from solid, English oak and assembled using traditional techniques.

The Kitchen

Our team had many discussions with the client to ascertain in great detail what was required from this kitchen project. As the kitchen was designed as freestanding furniture, every single piece had to be very carefully considered and designed to incorporate every modern convivence. As well as being beautiful and visually suited to the house itself, every item of furniture had to perform perfectly, providing the required amount of storage and be practical for everyday use.

The End Result

The kitchen fulfils our client’s brief beautifully. ‘ This was an absolutely stunning property to work on, we felt very excited to be part of this project. Our client also had an extensive collection of art and collectibles from their travels, which we were able to consider and include in the scheme, creating striking and interesting compositions’.
